چکیده

i.e., that the free currents flow in closed loops. Likewise, the time derivative of the fourth Maxwell equation implies that Jfree has no time dependence in magnetostatics. Often, magnetostatics is taken to be the situation in which ∇ · Jfree = 0 and D, E and Jfree have no time dependence, without explicit assumption that B and H also have no time dependence. Discuss the possibility of waves of B and H, consistent with the latter definition of magnetostatics [1]. Consider two specific examples of “magnetostatic” waves in which Jfree = 0:

All-optical observation and reconstruction of spin wave dispersion

To know the properties of a particle or a wave, one should measure how its energy changes with its momentum. The relation between them is called the dispersion relation, which encodes essential information of the kinetics. In a magnet, the wave motion of atomic spins serves as an elementary excitation, called a spin wave, and behaves like a fictitious particle. Although the dispersion relation ...

Domain-wall induced phase shifts in spin waves.

We study the interaction between two important features of ferromagnetic nanoparticles: magnetic domain walls and spin waves. Micromagnetic simulations reveal that magnetostatic spin waves change their phase as they pass through domain walls. Similar to an Aharonov-Bohm experiment, we suggest to probe this effect by splitting the waves on different branches of a ring. The interference of mergin...

Direct excitation of propagating spin waves by focused ultrashort optical pulses.

An all-optical experiment long utilized to image phonons excited by ultrashort optical pulses has been applied to a magnetic sample. In addition to circular ripples due to surface acoustic waves, we observe an X-shaped pattern formed by propagating spin waves. The emission of spin waves from the optical pulse epicenter in the form of collimated beams is qualitatively reproduced by micromagnetic...

Spin-Wave Effects in the Magnetization Reversal of a Thin Ferromagnetic Film

The influence of spin waves on rapid rotational magnetization reversal (switching) in a thin ferromagnetic film is investigated by means of a semiclassical, continuum theory which includes external, anisotropy, exchange, and magnetostatic (dipolar) fields. To simplify the magnetostatic field, a "thin-film approximation" is introduced, in which the magnetization is replaced by its average over t...

Linear and nonlinear diffraction of dipolar spin waves in yttrium iron garnet films observed by space- and time-resolved Brillouin light scattering

An advanced spaceand time-resolved Brillouin light-scattering technique is used to study diffraction of two-dimensional beams and pulses of dipolar spin waves excited by strip-line antennas in tangentially magnetized garnet films. The technique is an effective tool for investigation of two-dimensional spin-wave propagation with high spatial and temporal resolution. Linear effects, such as the u...
